Types Of Competition

The Club believe that to get the best out of swimming, competitive events are essential. You are usually introduced to this at internal time trials or inter-club league galas. Our galas are usually held at the Ridgeway Sports Centre 25m pool. Parents should bear in mind that spectators pay to watch at league galas.

Club Championship Galas are held during November / December each year.  All club swimmers are encouraged to enter to get the feel of a competitive gala and to get times for different strokes. These times are entered onto the Club database and used as a guide for team selection.  Cups, medals and certificates are awarded at the Presentation Evening / Disco in January. These galas can also be time-trial events so that swimmers can gain times for other events and league teams.

Club Sprints are open to all Wroughton ASC members and other Wiltshire clubs and take place in November each year at Ridgeway Leisure Centre pool. The Sprints are swum over a distance of 50m at each stroke with medals being awarded for the top 4 in each age group. Details will be posted on the notice board and swimmers must be entered in advance.  A small entrance fee is payable for entry to the competition.

Inter Club Galas – as your swimming improves you may be selected for one of the Wroughton ASC teams competing in the County Moonraker Winter and Summer League Competitions which are team events of individual and relay races against other Wiltshire Clubs.

Open meets – you may choose to enter an open meet that the club targets. We attend graded Novice, Sprint and Long Distance open meets – most have qualifying times to enter. You will need to pay a fee to enter these meets.

County, Regional and National Championships – the stronger swimmers may gain qualifying times to enter    the Age Groups (BAGCATS), the Youth events and Championships at the Wilts County ASA Championship or equivalent events at Region or National competitions.

If you are selected for any of the events you will find your name on the team sheet on the notice board and / or contacted via email. It is important that you and your parents read the notice board, website and emails as you need to confirm your availability for galas and keep up to date with competitive events, results and times from galas, extra training and social events.

“Success is long term” are the fundamentals of everything we do as a club.  For a copy of the document  issued by the ASA click here.
